A fourth generation Coloradan, Dean Winstanley spent his early years piling into the family’s International Travelall (the “cornpicker”) for family trips to hike, camp, ski, fish and exploring all corners of his beautiful state. Through these early family adventures and his parents, Dean gained a true love and appreciation for the unique natural beauty, history and archeology of Colorado.
After graduation from Colorado College in 1982, Dean spent a number of years teaching English and seeking a
much needed “travel fix” through Asia, including working in the People’s Republic of China. Upon his return from overseas Dean teamed up with Bruce Caughey to write The Colorado Guide. Dean has also written about Colorado in The Denver Post and on the Internet.
Currently Dean works on outdoor recreation policy and funding issues for Colorado State Parks as the Policy
and Special Projects Manager in Denver. Whenever possible he escapes to the mountains with his wife and two children to rejuvenate from life in the (increasingly) big city.
